Purposes of the Nerja Cave Foundation

The Foundation aims at the comprehensive management, conservation, and rational exploitation of Nerja Cave and related lands, primarily for tourism purposes, its geological study, and the archaeological site within it, as well as cultural and social promotion, especially in the municipality of Nerja. In addition to the comprehensive management, conservation, and exploitation of the Nerja Museum, owned by this entity.

Governance of the Nerja Cave Foundation

The founding institutions of the Public Foundation for Cueva de Nerja Services are: Sub-delegation of the Government in Malaga, Nerja City Council, and Provincial Government of Malaga.

The Board of Trustees is the governing, representative, and administrative body of the Public Foundation for Cueva de Nerja Services.

This Board of Trustees is composed of 21 members, plus a Secretary, who is not a trustee, an attorney of the State, by collaboration agreement with the entity.

Thus, the 21 members are:

• Sub-delegate of the Government in Malaga, who presides over it.
• Mayor-President of the Nerja City Council, who holds the First Vice Presidency.
• President of the Provincial Government of Malaga, who holds the Second Vice Presidency.
• Government Delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Malaga.
• A representative from the Delegation of Culture in Malaga of the Junta de Andalucía.
• A representative from the Delegation of Tourism in Malaga of the Junta de Andalucía.
• The Councilor of Tourism of the Nerja City Council.
• The Pedáneo Mayor of Maro.
• A representative from the Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo.
• A representative from the University of Malaga.
• The manager of the Nerja Cave.
• The Conservator of the Nerja Cave.
• The comptroller.

Additionally, the head of each of the founding institutions – that is, the Sub-delegate of the Government in Malaga, the Mayor-President of the Nerja City Council, and the President of the Provincial Government of Malaga – shall appoint 2 trustees who shall have the status of elected trustees.
