Visiting the Nerja Cave<\/strong> means exploring the most important natural monument in Andalusia<\/strong>, declared a Site of Cultural Interest since 2006<\/strong>, with the category of Archaeological Zone<\/strong>. We are a Historic Artistic Monument<\/strong> and a “Site of Geological Interest of International Relevance,” proposed by the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain<\/strong>, due to its paleontological and geomorphological<\/strong> significance.<\/p>

The Nerja Cave<\/strong>, known as the Natural Cathedral of the Costa del Sol<\/strong>, is located 750 meters from the coast<\/strong>, about 200 meters above sea level<\/strong>, on the slopes of the Sierra de Almijara<\/strong>. It is situated five kilometers from the town center of Nerja<\/strong> in the locality of Maro<\/strong>. The cavity has an area of approximately 35,000 square meters<\/strong>, with a maximum horizontal length of 700 meters<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Nerja Museum<\/strong> is the perfect complement to learning about the culture and history of the town of Nerja<\/strong> and many of the secrets of the Nerja Cave<\/strong>. Visitors can access it for free when it is included in their cave entrance ticket. This space offers a rich insight into local history, from Prehistory to the present<\/strong>, highlighting the most significant aspects of each historical period.<\/p>

As an important cultural landmark of Nerja and the Axarqu\u00eda region<\/strong>, the Nerja Museum<\/strong> offers a wide range of activities throughout the year, such as concerts, theater performances, children’s workshops, book presentations, and poetry readings. It also regularly hosts temporary art exhibitions in the Ana Mar\u00eda M\u00e1rquez Room<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Virtual Reality at Nerja Cave<\/strong> offers an immersive experience<\/strong> for visitors. It complements the physical visit to the cave by showcasing, through new technologies, areas and secrets that cannot be displayed during the standard tourist route. The experience features a 360\u00ba video<\/strong>, viewed using latest-generation Virtual Reality headsets<\/strong>. This is a truly unique service included with the Nerja Cave entrance, offered in the largest Virtual Reality Room in Europe<\/strong>, where the fictional character Tadeo Jones<\/strong> welcomes visitors and helps them dive into this adventure.<\/p>

Through this digital visit, you can explore how the Earth and the Nerja cave were formed, and what life was like inside the cave 35,000 years ago<\/strong>, simulating the experience as if you were there, thanks to the Virtual Reality headsets and immersive sounds<\/strong>. It showcases the prehistoric era<\/strong> and the lives of those who once inhabited the Nerja Cave<\/strong>.<\/p>

Additionally, visitors can see the cave paintings<\/strong> hidden within the Nerja Cave, making it one of the main pictorial references in Europe. There are also fascinating geological and archaeological<\/strong> elements revealed through the experience.<\/p>

Children and young people with reduced mobility<\/strong> can also participate in these school trips, thanks to a special experience offered in the Virtual Reality Room of the facility<\/strong>: Virtual Reality Visit to the Nerja Cave<\/strong>.<\/p>

The standard visit to the Nerja Cave follows a circular route that involves 458 steps in total<\/strong>, making it inaccessible for people with reduced mobility. Additionally, wheeled vehicles cannot enter due to the steep and narrow pathways.<\/p>

For this reason, one of the main objectives of the Nerja Cave Foundation<\/strong> is to create a more accessible and inclusive<\/strong> space for all visitors. In the case of people with reduced mobility, this goal has been achieved through Virtual Reality<\/strong>.<\/p>

Thus, in the Virtual Reality Room of the facility<\/strong>, visitors can enjoy a Virtual Reality Tour of the Nerja Cave<\/strong>, where they can explore the interior of the cave in an immersive way. This tour lasts 10 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>

If your school group includes children or young people with reduced mobility, please indicate this when making the reservation. This experience will be combined with the Virtual Reality Room with Tadeo Jones<\/strong>, which lasts 12 minutes<\/strong>, and is included in all visits for all children and young people in the group.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Due to its location within the Natural Park of the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama<\/strong>, the Detunda-Nerja Cave Botanical Garden<\/strong> houses plant species from southwestern Granada and eastern M\u00e1laga. This landscaped space is set in an area with a highly diverse terrain and a rich geological variety. As a result, it is home to a wide range of plant species, including endemic plants unique to the region<\/strong>.<\/p>

A stroll through the Botanical Garden<\/strong>, accessible from the Nerja Cave<\/strong> site, allows visitors to observe a significant collection of Mediterranean flora, which has adapted to extended periods of summer drought.<\/p>

Furthermore, throughout this natural terrain, visitors can see various traditional crops<\/strong> from these geographical areas. The garden also includes a collection of orchids and rare species<\/strong>, which undoubtedly highlight its remarkable biodiversity.<\/p>

The Detunda-Nerja Cave Botanical Garden<\/strong> is managed by the Regional Government of Andalusia<\/strong>. It can be accessed via the main cave site, with the entrance located behind the ticket office area. The garden is open daily from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM<\/strong>. However, visitors are advised to check ahead as the opening hours are not determined by the Nerja Cave Foundation<\/strong>, but rather by the Regional Government of Andalusia<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
